FREE Margo Lanagan!

Flower and WeedHmm. Possibly that title could have been worded a little differently, because as far as we know, Margo isn’t actually locked up anywhere (at the moment…) 🙂

Rather, we have a very short special on Margo’s wonderful “Flower and Weed” over at Amazon, to celebrate Margo’s wonderful Barbara Jefferis Award win for Sea Hearts. Sea Hearts is a personal favourite of ours, and “Flower and Weed” tells a little part of the story – don’t miss out!

Free FableCroft ebooks for Easter!

It’s a lovely long weekend, so for a very limited time we have two free ebooks on Amazon! Until Monday only, you can grab great stories by Dirk Flinthart and Margo Lanagan, instantly available on your ereader!

SANCTION cover“Sanction” by Dirk Flinthart – continuing on from the events of the Aurealis Award-shortlisted Path of Night (though standing alone!), this brand new story follows former detective Jen Morris on a mission that will see her question everything she knows, and she’s dragging a very much changed Michael Devlin along for the ride. Will what she has to do take too much toll?

Flower and Weed“Flower and Weed” by Margo Lanagan – a short story glimpse into the vividly imagined world of Margo Lanagan’s powerful, multi-award-winning novel Sea Hearts (also published as The Brides of Rollrock Island). Selkies are in the background, but this is a story of a liaison between a selkie’s earthly husband and one of the witches who does the magic that’s essential to keeping the selkie-wife trade going.

If that’s not enough, you can still pre-order Jo Anderton’s new Veiled Worlds novel right now and receive an exclusive bonus content ebook, containing both original and previously published stories in the Veiled Worlds. Don’t miss out!

FREE for a limited time – Glenda Larke’s “The Aware”

Aware CoverGlenda Larke is not a cranky lady. Well, she IS, in the way we define our Cranky Ladies, because she’s done some incredible things so far in her life, but in person she is lovely (not cranky!) and an amazingly talented author. After having her first novel published 15 years ago, Glenda continues to write fantastic books that keep on getting better, and when you know how good her early works were, the anticipation for each new one grows!

Today is the release day for Glenda’s newest book, The Lascar’s Dagger, the first of her new Forsaken Lands series, and I can’t wait to read it. To celebrate the new book, we have made the first book of Glenda’s first trilogy FREE, for a limited time. From now until the end of March, you can get The Aware (book 1 of the Isles of Glory) free on most platforms – currently Amazon, Kobo, iTunes and Smashwords have the discount applied, while Wizard’s Tower Books has a fantastic bundle deal with all three Isles of Glory novels for the price of two.

Remember, it’s only for two weeks, so get in quick to get your copy! And if you love Glenda’s books, or you simply love sweeping epic fantasy with well-realised characters and action-packed plot, check out The Lascar’s Dagger too – I’ll bet it’s another piece of Larke brilliance.

The Isles of Glory by Glenda Larke

Tainted CoverThis morning I pressed “publish” on the final book of Glenda Larke’s Isles of Glory trilogy, The Tainted. FableCroft has been privileged to publish the ebook editions of this fantastic series over the past few months, and I have been personally delighted to revisit them. It has been a decade since the paperbacks were first released (via Voyager in Australia and Ace in the US, with later German editions as well), and this is the first time English ebook editions have been available.

If you enjoy epic fantasy with an intelligent and action-filled plot, detailed and logical world-building, and characters you will weep for, fall in love with or loathe with justified passion, you need to read Glenda Larke’s books. This genre has been my first love, my go-to comfort read, my preferred escape from reality for over 20 years, and Glenda’s novels are some of the best examples of the form I’ve come across. This trilogy is as good (or better!) than most fantasy being published today, and the themes explored are just as relevant as ever.

The great thing is, you don’t have to just take MY word for it – over the years so many people have said wonderful things about the books. We list some on the Isles of Glory page here on the FableCroft site, but check out Goodreads and the paperback editions on Amazon for even more.

Here at FableCroft, I only publish stories I love, and I love these books. I think you will too!

The books of the Isles of Glory trilogy, The Aware, Gilfeather and The Tainted, are (or will soon be) available for just US$3.99 each from Amazon, Kobo, Smashwords (and affiliates, including iTunes and Sony Bookstore), Wizard’s Tower Books and Weightless Books. Choose your preferred format and supplier!

We are in the final throes of production for the first ever ebook of Glenda Larke’s excellent Gilfeather, book two of the Isles of Glory series.

The unassuming Sky Plains healer Gilfeather is drawn into the adventure of a lifetime, as he joins a warrior and a sorceress on a quest to overcome a ruthless dunmagicker whose lust for dark power places the entirety of the Glory Isles in danger.

Book one of the series, The Aware, is already available at your favourite e-tailer for around $3.99.

Coming soon from FableCroft and Tansy Rayner Roberts…

Ink Black Magic by Tansy Rayner Roberts is in the final stages of production here at FableCroft. Ink Black Magic is a Mocklore novel and we will be releasing it in ebook and paperbook very soon!

Kassa Daggersharp has been a pirate, a witch, a menace to public safety, a villain, a hero and a legend. These days, she lectures first year students on the dangers of magic, at the Polyhedrotechnical in Cluft.

Egg Friefriedsson is Kassa’s teenage cousin, a lapsed Axgaard warrior who would rather stay in his room and draw comics all day than hang out with his friends. If only comics had been invented.

Aragon Silversword is missing, presumed dead.

All the adventures are over. It’s time to get on with being a grownup. But when Egg’s drawings come to life, including an evil dark city full of villains and monsters, everyone starts to lose their grip on reality. Even the flying sheep.

Kassa and Egg are not sure who are the heroes and who are the villains anymore, but someone has to step up to save Mocklore, one last time.

True love isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Happy endings don’t come cheap.
All that magic is probably going to kill you.
You really can have too much black velvet.

All this and more in the third and final adventure of The Mocklore Chronicles!

Liquid Gold Cover LASTI love that this book works very well as a standalone novel, but if you’re keen to find out more about Kassa and her past, you might like to start with Tansy’s first two books, Splashdance Silver and Liquid Gold, available for around $3.99 each from your preferred ebook retailer!

Weekend reading!

Aware CoverI’m neck deep in reading for the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Awards, which involves judging around 400 books in four categories throughout the year. Around now is when the biggest boxes arrive (approximately 40 in each of the most recent boxes, which come every three weeks), so I don’t have much time for any other reading! Luckily, there are some great novels for children and young adults, as well as beautiful picture books to enjoy, so it’s not a hardship 🙂

But if YOUR reading isn’t of the required kind this weekend, maybe you’d like to try some FableCroft ebooks? We’ve short stories, novels, anthologies and collections, ranging in price from 99 cents to $9.99, all at the click of the mouse! All our ebooks, with direct links to Kindle, Kobo or our independent distributors Wizard’s Tower and Weightless Books, are listed on our Ebooks page. Check it out!

New book! The Aware by Glenda Larke

Aware CoverThe first of Glenda Larke’s Isles of Glory trilogy, The Aware, is now available in ebook from FableCroft. From the blurb:

Imagine what it’s like to be born citizenless in a world where citizenship is everything.

Imagine what it’s like to be abandoned by the parents you can’t remember before you are two years old, in a city that despises you for being a halfbreed.

Imagine what it is like to be able to see magic when others can’t.

Imagine what it’s like to live in the Glory Isles at a time when your archipelago is about to be discovered by another civilization from half a world away.

Changes are in the wind.

This is the world of The Aware.

One of my favourite things about this book is that the narrator, Blaze, is not the typical character we so often see in fantasy. You know that idea of a “strong female character” we often hear about but rarely actually see in action? To me, Blaze is the type of creation that phrase actually describes! Put her alongside a supporting cast who you will get to know and still want more, and some of the best world-building in modern fantasy, and The Aware is the start of an excellent reading journey.

“Rich world building will capture the reader’s interest. With a forceful heroine who is mature and experienced, Larke crafts a fantastic tale that moves beyond a typical coming-of-age fantasy. Fans of Lois McMaster Bujold and Mercedes Lackey’s strong heroines will relish Blaze’s adventures.” –Romantic Times, USA.

See where you can grab your copy of The Aware here, and look out for the rest of the trilogy soon!
